Writing is one of my greatest passions in life.
I’ve always loved having a story to tell, although I’ve never been good with sticking to just one. My computer is full of ideas and excerpts dating back years, but none of them ever became a fleshed out story, because my mind was always thinking about what to write next. It’s taken a lot of time to change that and keep my mind focused on one idea at a time, but the hard work has paid off.
Studying a degree in Creative Writing is definitely one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. Not only did it prove me with the skills and knowledge that it takes to be a good writer, but it also afforded me the opportunity to work creatively on a daily basis. The course helped me to understand who I am as a writer and taught me to appreciate poetry in a way that I never had in the past. I would never have expected to finish my degree with with a bigger love for poetry than fiction, but life surprises us sometimes.
With writing being such a great love of mine, I wanted to have somewhere online to share it with other people. This page is where you can go to check out all the creative writing that I’ve uploaded to this blog, including micro fiction, short stories and poetry.
The Diary is a work of fiction that I started back in university and continue to add to from time to time. It documents the life of a man who’s recently been diagnosed with a terminal illness. This theme of mortality is something that has inspired several of my creative works, but it’s the style that The Diary is written in that I feel is the major focus of this story. I’ve utilised footnotes to help establish the character’s personality more and present a contrast between what he outwardly projects and what he’s actually feeling inside.

My relationship with poetry has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride over the years. I never really cared for it before I went to university, but during my degree I discovered that it was actually a great outlet for the way that I like to write. As someone who is constantly thinking up new ideas, the short form style of poetry is incredibly beneficial for getting my words onto the page. I’m constantly amazed at how well writing a poem helps me to express myself, so much so that it’s now my go to thing whenever I’m in a creative mood…read more
